Establishing a standard of transparency and dignity for mining.
Drawing on the Ostro family’s history in gemstones, this initiative aims to create a 'fair share' model for mining. It focuses on Burma’s abundant natural resources, demonstrating that luxury goods can, and should, directly benefit the local communities.
Our work in Burma is currently paused to protect our partners following the coup in February 2021. We remain deeply committed to promoting economic development and dignified employment in the country, and demonstrating the tangible benefits of an open, tolerant society. We hope to be able to resume work when conditions permit.
Mission & Impact
The work redefines the gemstone industry through a commitment to transparency, environmental stewardship, and human rights. The mission is to establish an ethical "fair share" mining model that ensures resources contribute to local wealth and worker dignity.
The project established a blueprint for ethical extraction that accounts for environmental costs and ensures that the wealth generated from gemstones stays within the local community to fund schools and infrastructure.
